About Reflexology

What is Reflexology
Reflexology is a gentle non-invasive therapy that involves applying pressure to specific points on the feet (or sometimes hands). These points correspond to different organs and systems in the body. The aim is to support your body’s natural ability to relax, rebalance and heal itself.
How does Reflexology work
The foot contains about 7,800 nerves. It is believed that each one of these nerves corresponds to specific glands, organs and systems in the body. These areas are known as reflex points and have been mapped on the feet (and hands). By applying gentle, targeted pressure to these reflex points, reflexologists aim to stimulate the corresponding body part, encourage better energy flow, support circulation and help the body return to a state of balance.

What does a session involve?
You’ll start by relaxing in a reclining chair. After a short consultation I’ll begin working on your feet using gentle thumb and finger pressure. Most people find the experience deeply relaxing – some even fall asleep! The session usually lasts 60mins in total.
Can Reflexology help with specific health issues?
Reflexology is not a medical treatment and doesn’t diagnose or claim to cure conditions, however, most people find it helps them manage stress, improve sleep, balance hormones, aid recovery, ease muscle tension, and promote an overall sense of well-being.
The NHS recognises the benefits of reflexology as a complimentary therapy to support wellbeing. It is used in palliative care, cancer support and for stress management programmes to help reduce anxiety, improve relaxation and enhance overall comfort.

Is Reflexology safe for everyone?
Reflexology is generally safe for most people, including older adults and those with chronic conditions. However, there are some situations where extra care or GP consent may be required – such as during the first trimester of pregnancy, for those with deep vein thrombosis (DVT), those with infections, open wounds, or skin conditions on the feet, severe circulatory problems or certain neurological disorders.
If you have any underlying health conditions, it’s important to discuss them before your session so I can tailor your treatment safely or advise if reflexology might not be advisable for you.
